Thousands of Carter Family Fold visitors over the years have been thrilled by the marvelous trio singing of Janette Carter, her brother Joe Carter, and Janette's son Dale Jett. Dale's solo work and guitar and vocal assists with numerous other family members and visiting performers have been frequent treats as well. This grandson of A.P. and Sara Carter has been an invaluable contributor to the operations of the Carter Family Fold virtually from its beginning, helping his mother, Janette, with major tasks such as running the auditorium's sound system.
In addition to helping carry on the Carter Family musical tradition at the Fold and the many events and appearances arising from the Fold's growth and importance, Dale has been following an increasing schedule of other private and public concerts at colleges and festivals plus participation in several record albums with other artists. He's currently working on his own CD to be released in the near future. Dale describes his unique guitar style as "left-handed
upside down," adding he was influenced by his friend and mentor,
the late Elizabeth Cotten, a renowned blues artist. His music spans
many genres, including Carter Family tunes, traditional songs, and Americana.
He often performs solo, but he also regularly plays with members of
the band "Mendota." Following the Carter Family tradition,
he also plays autoharp on occasion. |
