Lindsay Haisley

Lindsay has been playing for audiences in Texas and around the country since 1974 and is known nationally as one of the world's top autoharpists. He has performed frequently at the Kerrville Folk Festival since 1979 and has accompanied Peter Yarrow, David Amram and others on stage there. Among the many festivals and venues he has performed and taught at are the Walnut Valley Festival, the Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering, the Ozark Folk Center Autoharp Jamboree and the Willamette Valley Autoharp Gathering.

Lindsay is a dynamic and exciting player and performer known best for his mastery of the chromatic autoharp. His repertoire and style have pushed the instrument into new musical territory embracing jazz, ragtime, and modern and traditional popular standards. His performances are full of infectious energy which makes it hard for his audiences to keep from foot-stomping and hand-clapping.

Lindsay is an experienced autoharp instructor and has a repertoire of well developed and well received hands-on workshops on the instrument. These are well suited for festivals, autoharp clubs and other venues where instrumental workshops are a part of the program.

In addition to his solo performances and workshops, Lindsay also plays with The Convict Hill Gang in and around the Austin, Texas area with whom he plays autoharp, trombone and guitar, although usually not all at the same time.

As a songwriter, Lindsay was honored in 1978 as a winner in the Kerrville Folk Festival's prestigious New Folk songwriting competiton and has won additional recognition for his playing of both the autoharp and guitar. He served on the board of directors of the Kerrville Folk Festival from 1986 to 2000.

In 2004, Lindsay was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame, which has also recognized autoharpists such as Bryan Bowers and Maybelle Carter of The Carter Family.
